Description BBC Profile:
This seat has generally been loyal to Labour since 1945, although it was held by the Conservatives between 1983 and 1997. In 1997, it was won by Labours John McDonnell by more than 14,000 votes and after a 4% swing to the Conservatives in 2005, McDonnell had a majority of 10,847.

At the election, the constituency will gain three part wards Botwell, Heathrow Villages and West Drayton from Uxbridge. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

This is a suburban constituency at the western extreme of the Greater London area. Criss-crossed by motorways and home to industrial land-use, Hayes and Harlington is ethnically diverse, and covers a large geographical area, including most of Heathrow Airport.

Its proximity to Heathrow ensures excellent transport links, situated as it is on the M25, the M4 and A4, and numerous other major thoroughfares.

Heathrow Airport is a major employer for residents of the constituency.
