Description
BBC Profile:
The Conservatives held the seat from 1979 to 1997, when Enfield North joined the two other Enfield parliamentary constituencies moving to Labour.

Labour's Joan Ryan has held the seat since, although her majority fell to 1,920 in 2005, with a swing towards the Conservatives of 0.6%.

At the election, the seat loses the ward of Ponders End to Edmonton, and the part-ward of Grange to Enfield Southgate, but gains a part-ward of Highlands from Enfield Southgate and the part-ward of Southbury from Edmonton.

To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below. Boundary changes mean that this seat is notionally - or estimated to be - a Conservative-held seat

Enfield North is the northernmost constituency in London, with industrial and urban centres giving way to more rural green belt areas in the north of the region. It includes large Turkish, Bangladeshi, Cypriot and Italian communities.

This seat is partly industrial, mainly in the area east of the Cambridge Road. In contrast it also adjoins the open countryside of Enfield Chase, bordering Hertfordshire.

Engineering, chemicals, printing and food processing are the main industries. Enfield Business Centre, within the constituency, supports local business activity, and Enfield Education Business Partnership has sought to strengthen private investment in schools in the area.
