Description |
The American Party had been established in Texas by disaffected Democrats in 8/1919. On 4/21/1920, former Gov. James E. Ferguson announced his candidacy for President on the American Party ticket. It has not been determined when the party officially nominated him for the post. The candidate for VP was William J. Hough.
Ferguson's platform was described in the New York Times on 4/22/1920 as opposition to the League of Nations, Prohibition, women's suffrage, and compulsory military training. Ferguson appeared on the ballot only in Texas.
