Description BBC Profile:
Glasgow East was created in the 2005 boundary review. It comprises of the former constituency of Glasgow Baillieston and four wards from the former constituency of Glasgow Shettleston: Shettleston, Tollcross Park, Braidfauld, and Parkhead.

In 2005 the Labour MP for Glasgow Baillieston, Jimmy Wray, retired and David Marshall, previously the MP for Glasgow Shettleston, took the new seat for Labour with a 13,507 majority. Marshall stepped down as MP in June 2008. In the subsequent by-election, the SNP's John Mason won the seat by 365 votes.

There are no boundary changes affecting this seat in 2010.

Glasgow East is a largely working class residential seat and contains the vast Easterhouse council estate. It does however have some more upmarket housing areas such as the smart detached homes around Mount Vernon.

Celtic Park, home of Celtic Football Club is on the western edge of this seat close to the city centre.

Glasgow has been awarded the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Celtic Park will host the opening ceremony and the seat will also host the cycling events. A second swimming pool is to be built in Tollcross.
