Description |
In response to the Great Depression, MacDonald resigned as prime minister and then brokered a national coalition with the Conservatives and Liberals where he was able to stay on as prime minister. Because of this, he and his supporters were expelled from the Labour Party and formed the National Labour Party.
Although the National Labour Party won only 13 seats, the Government won a landslide decision over Labour, who had a net loss of 225 seats. The Conservative Party accounted for 473 of the Government's seats, but kept MacDonald on as prime minister.
