Description |
A slate of Electors headed by Edward Clark received 14 votes. Congressional Quarterly's publciations have credited these votes to Clark as a candidate (though it only credits the slate with 13 votes).
The candidates for Elector were Edward Clark, James Hassell, Schuyler Moss, W. Ezra Bowers, Walter T. Penny, Duncan M. Sanders, and William V. Sellers. [Official returns, N.C. Department of Archives and History]
This slate of Electors received 14 votes, 10 of which came from Catawba County. Since the NC state chairman of the Independence League was former U.S. Rep. Alonzo Shuford of Catawba County, it appears highly likely that the Electors were sponsored by the Independence League.
