| Description |
Appointment to replace Senator Deccio, who retired due to old age and health problems. While he had been rumoured to be pursuing a seat on the Eastern Washington Growth Management Hearings Board several months ago, Rep. Jim Clements was considered the likely successor. However, when Sen. Joyce Mulliken was appointed to the Board instead, Clements chose not to run for reelection to the House and said he would not be interested in any appointment to the Senate. Still, his name is being considered by the Yakima County Central Republican Committee, whose PCOs will vote on its three preferred choices for the appointment and county commissioners will decide from that list.
