Democratic Nomination
The Democratic state convention nominated Shepherd for a full term by acclamation on 8/8/1894.
Fusion Nomination
Populist leaders asked Republican leaders to offer some names for them to consider at their state convention on 8/1/1894. The Republicans were reluctant to take the step since their convention had not met, but under the circumstances they offered Faircloth as an option. He was unanimously nominated at the Populist state convention. The Republican state convention met on 8/30/1894 and unanimously endorsed the judicial ticket nominated by the Populists, including Faircloth.
Term
Faircloth was elected to an 8-year term. He served until his death in 1900.
