Description |
The 4th Populist Party National Convention assembled in the Illinois State Arsenal in Springfield IL.
Chairman: J.M. Mallett TX
Secretary: Charles H. DeFrance NE
A major point of contention at the beginning of the convention was whether states which were only partially represented could cast the vote of the entire state. The convention finally decided to allow partial delegations to cast votes for absent delegates.
Thomas E. Watson was nominated for President on the second ballot. The two roll calls were as follow:
Candidate, total on first ballot, total on second ballot:
--Thomas E. Watson GA 334/698
--William V. Allen NE 319/0
--Samuel W. Williams IN 45/0
The convention nominated Thomas H. Tibbles NE for Vice President.
