Description |
Although the Democrats won a 54-43% victory in the U.S. Senate elections of 1982, only three seats changed hands. The two major parties exchanged one seat each, and the Republicans won the lone Independent seat. Overall, the Democrats won 20 seats to 13 for the Republicans; the new Senate had 54 Republicans and 46 Democrats.
New U.S. Senators: Wilson (R-CA), Hecht (R-NV), Lautenberg (D-NJ), Bingaman (D-NM), and Trible (R-VA).
