Democratic nomination
The Democratic district convention met in Durham on 8/7/1894. The 292 delegates nominated Graham by acclamation, without taking a ballot (Oxford Public Ledger, 8/10/1894).
Republican nomination
Settle was renominated unanimously at the Republican district convention held at Greensboro on 8/15/1894. Amis worked the delegations before the vote but not a single delegate voted for him (Union Republican, 8/23/1894).
Silver Republican candidacy
Two days after the Republican district convention, Amis announced that he was running on the Silver Republican ticket (Union Republican, 8/23/1894).
Populist nomination
The Populist district convention met in Hillsboro on 10/4/1894. The delegates nominated Merritt (Raleigh News & Observer, 10/5/1894). Several newspapers discussed this convention but none stated that the ballot was unanimous or contested.
