South Carolina was the only state in 1976 that insisted that candidates put their full name on the ballot. In the other 49 states and in DC, Carter appeared on the ballot as "Jimmy Carter", but he appeared on the South Carolina ballot as "James E. Carter Jr."
The 1976 election was the final time that a Democrat won a presidential election in South Carolina.
