Description |
Democratic nomination
The Democratic district convention met in Wilkesboro on 7/13/1892. The delegates nominated Bower unanimously for the US House (Lenoir Topic, 7/20/1892).
Republican nomination
The Republican district convention met in Wilkesboro on 8/17. The delegates nominated Wilcox almost unanimously, with three scattering votes (Union Republican, 8/18/1892).
Populist nomination
Patton had expressed an interest in a congressional run early in 1892, finding that he couldn't support the Democratic ticket. He initially announced as an Independent candidate in April 1892 (Statesville Record and Landmark, 4/21/1892). The Populist district convention met at Lenoir on 6/16; Patton sent them a telegram that he was running as an Independent only. The delegates attempted to nominate him but ended up choosing not to officially nominate (Lenoir Topic, 6/22/1892). The Populists supported him during the fall campaign.
Prohibition nomination
Newspapers did not report on a Prohibition district convention. White first appears as the nominee in an article in the Charlotte Observer on 10/3/1892.
