This year's election saw a loss of five seats for Labour and a loss of one seat for the nationalists, with a gain of three seats for Conservatives and two seats for Liberal Democrats in this region. In addition, Independent candidate Peter Law upset Labour in Blaenau Gwent, previously the safest Labour seat in Wales.
