Due to vacancy (previous Senator did not qualify).
Wilson was elected on the 28th ballot, taken February 1, 1895. Wilson edged Levi Ankeny on the 27th ballot 29-28 to knock out Ankeny, and easily won on the 28th ballot, receiving 80 of 109 votes.
