Description |
The Democrats scored a 54-45% victory in the U.S. Senate races of 1954. They had gained most of the competitive seats in 1948, so they did not have a lot of room to increase their majority (gained in 1953 as the result of GOP deaths). Once all the dust had settled, the numbers in the Senate had not changed. When the new Senate assembled, it had 48 Democrats, 47 Republicans, and one Independent (Morse of Oregon).
