This was the only time in US History that North Carolina chose a member of Congress at large.
Democratic nomination
Bennett was nominated by acclamation at the Democratic state convention at Raleigh on 7/5/1882 (Charlotte Democrat, 7/7/1882).
Republican nomination
The Republican state convention met at Raleigh on 6/4/1882. It endorsed the LAP nomination of Dockery by acclamation.
