Data Sources | Official returns in the state archives for Franklin and Martin Counties and electoral district 8; Raleigh Register 11/12/1804; Wilmington Gazette 11/27/1804. The available votes reflect the heart of the Federalist effort in the State; the Jefferson Electors were often unopposed in the remaining 10 districts. The Raleigh Register reported that only 40 votes were cast for the Federalists in electoral district 6 but did not give the votes for the Jefferson Elector (although he received 95 votes in Franklin County alone). |
Description |
The Electors were elected from presidential elector districts. The Federalists won two districts (PED 8 and 10), but Jefferson supporters were able to obtain certification of the DR electors in both cases.
The Presidential Electors were (1) Felix Walker, (2) Peter Forney, (3) Joseph Williams, (4) Montfort Stokes, (5) Solomon Graves, (6) Joseph Taylor, (7) Joseph J. Alston, (8) Robert Cochrane, (9) Lemuel Sawyer, (10) James Jones, (11) Reading Blount, (12) Bryan Whitfield, (13) Samuel Ashe, and (14) Gideon Alston.
