It is speculated she had already been offered a position in the Trump administration, most likely under Kennedy should he be confirmed for a Cabinet post.
McArdle had announced support for the founder of the Mises Caucus, Michael Heise, to be appointed to the seat she would be vacating. Although the caucus had wielded a supermajority for much of the term, there had been fallout at various points over the fundraising scheme with Kennedy, the handling of the suspension and reinstatement of Caryn Ann Harlos as secretary, and the recent allegations of embezzlement. In the end, a unity coalition came together to elect longtime LNC member Steven Nekhaila as chair and Paul Darr as vice-chair, representing a working majority across caucus lines.
Members had previously attempted to draft former Rep. Justin Amash to fill the seat, and he stated he would be open to the role provided there were support from across caucus lines as he had no intention of being part of infighting. He would not attend the meeting to accept nomination as there was caucus rancor surrounding the appointment, but did extend support to the Nekhaila-Darr team upon being elected. [Less...]
