Description Johnson elected on the first ballot.

Originally Representative Keith Self voted for Byron Donalds and Representative Ralph Norman voted for Jim Jordan. However, before the vote was finalized Self and Norman changed their votes to Mike Johnson.

Representative Thomas Massie voted for Tom Emmer.

Senator Rand Paul and Representatives Jim Jordan, Steve Scalise, and Tom Emmer suggested Elon Musk as a potential Speaker making him a speculative candidate. Prior to the election Elon Musk endorsed Johnson for Speaker.

434 of 435 Representatives voted as the November 15, 2024 resignation of FL-01 Representative Matt Gaetz left one House seat vacant for the Speaker election.

I have more respect for the nutcases who actually vote against Johnson rather than the ones who abstain.

Campari_007: No, Chip Roy is the one who made a big stink and then abstained.

BBC Live Reporting is reporting that Chip Roy voted for Johnson.

The clerk is now reading the names of those who did not vote. Some are casting ballots for Johnson, who has returned and is watching from the front of the chamber.

Chip Roy of Texas, who was considered one of the leaders of the group, just voted for Johnson.

That elicited another round of chatter - and an audible ooo-hoo from one of the Democrats [Link]

No way Musk was ever in the running he would never ask to be put in a position to have to work a real job
