The result of the county vote system was Watson 97 counties = 245 unit votes; Dorsey 38 = 103 uv; Smith 14 = 34 uv.
Watson ran as an anti-League of Nations contender, while Dorsey supported the League. Both criticized Smith as voting too often with the Republicans in the Senate and against Wilson.
