| Description |
Because of the even 50-50 split in the House from the 1988 elections, the Democrats and Republicans agreed to a power sharing agreement where the speaker would alternate for different days.
The agreement appears to end in late February 1990 after the death of Democrat George E. Cook and the party switch of Frank Newkirk Jr.
