Description | Center-left party with strong links to the Independent Trade Union Confederation of Luxembourg (OGB-L). Party was founded on July 5, 1902, the oldest in Luxembourg, as far-left to communist until January 2, 1921, when its communist elements split to create the Communist Party of Luxembourg. Party's influence began to wane until it decided to 'rebrand' itself center-left in 1945, a year which the party, as currently ideologically constituted, represents as its true birth. Party derives much of its strength from Luxembourg's industrial and mining areas, in particular, among the communes of Terres Rouges. Party is the third largest in the Chamber of Deputies with 10 seats. Party has been led by Dan Biancalana since January 17, 2022 [Lëtzebuerger Sozialistesch Aarbechterpartei (LSAP)]. |
