Marxist-Leninist party banned until 1993. Party uses a hierarchical stratum typical of Communist parties, with its Secretary General (Andres Esono Ondo) as lead.
Launched in 1990, party operated clandestinely until legal recognition was granted in February 1993 via a 'National Pact' allowing the existence of a handful of other parties.
CPDS boycotted the 2016 presidential elections but remains EG's largest (legal) opposition party. Party holds one seat in the parliament [Convergencia para la Democracia Social (CPDS)].
