Party renamed the Communist Party of Kenya (CPK) at a Social Democratic Party of Kenya congress that took place between January 5, 2019 to March 5, 2019 at which members decided that the SDP was deceiving itself (as well as the outside world) by positioning itself as a mere liberal social democratic organization.
