Center-left anti-communist opposition party also known as the "Gromada" or "Hramada" or "The Assembly." Party was originally launched during the perestroika period in Belarus shortly before the denouement of the Soviet Union on December 25, 1991, but subsequently banned on March 15, 1996. Party re-opened on February 15, 1998 under the leadership of Stanislav Shushkevich, the former Chairman of the Supreme Council of Belarus (1991-19 94). Party opposes state regulation, advocates a market economy, and supports Western-style democratization. Party also calls for a national cultural revival and a strengthening of the state independence of Belarus. Party was abolished by order of the Supreme Court of Belarus on July 31, 2023 [Белорусская социал-демократическая Грамада; Belarusian satsyal-demakratychnaya Hramada (BSDP or BSDH "Hramada")].
