Marxist-Leninist party begun as the Belarusian Party of Communists (PKB) until changing its name on October 25, 2009. Party is led by Sergey Kalyakin, nephew of Mikalay Dzyemyantsyey, who was Chairman of the Byelorussian Communist Party and de facto ruler of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. Kalyakin was touted as a restorer of Soviet autocracy in Belarus after it separated from the USSR in August 25, 1991 to become a republic, and ran for the presidency three times under the banner of the PKB, becoming an erstwhile rival to current president Alexander Lukashenko. Kalyakin became chairman of the newly-named party in 2009. On September 22, 2023, the Supreme Court of Belarus liquidated the party [Беларуская партыя левых "Справядлівы свет"; Bielaruskaja partyja lievych "Spraviadlivy sviet" (SS)].
