Description | Center-right party launched by MPs split off from the Nacionalista Party in 1946, including its leading adherent, newspaper magnate Manuel Roxas, who became the Philippines' fifth President (May 28, 1946 to April 15, 1948) after being heavily favored by General Douglas MacArthur. Though the party subsequently raised up three additional presidents, its legislative performance, always unsteady, saw a prolonged decline. Party reemerged upon the election of its candidate Benigno Aquino III (President of the Philippines - June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2016), but has faced mixed fortunes since. Party has been led by MP Francis Pangilinan and chaired by Leni Robredo, the Philippines' vice president and the party's nominee for president in the May 9, 2022 presidential election [Liberal Party of the Philippines; Partido Liberal ng Pilipinas (PLP)]. |
