Description | Far left ruling party of Nepal, and the largest Communist party in South Asia. Party was the result of a merger of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist; CPN-UML) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center).
Party was declared invalid and dissolved by Supreme Court order on March 8, 2021. Upon the ruling, the two predecessor parties which dissolved on May 17, 2018 due to the merger, revived themselves to their original state.
Party chairs were each leaders of their respective parties before the merger; they are Nepal's current Prime Minister (since February 15, 2018) KP Sharma Oli (Marxist-Leninist Communist Party), and former Prime Minister of Nepal (from 2008 to 2009 and from 2016 to 2017) Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Maoist Communist Party).
