Description | Center-right, Christian-humanist opposition party legalized in 2015, 10 years after its establishment. Party and its leader and founder, Guinea Captain Gabriel Nsé Obiang, who lives in exile, had been labelled the single greatest threat to the regime of Teodoro Obiang Nguema. Party endured multiple military sieges of its headquarters, its members arrested (146 in February 2018) and its leader sought by international warrant for "injuries and serious injuries" to the President of the nation, with a presumed penalty of death. Party was banned by decree on 2/28/18 [Link] . CI prisoners were released on October 22, 2018 after pressure from the Spanish government then sought for re-arrest beginning in January 2019. Party still holds one seat, the sole opposition seat, in the Equitoguinean Chamber of Deputies [Ciudadanos por la Innovacion de Guinea Ecuatorial (CI)]. |
