| Description | Once-dominant Indo-Fijian party founded by Fiji independence leader A.D. Patel and the oldest in the country. Party began as an assembly of Indian leaders organized under the banner of the Citizens Federation keen on an independent Fiji and republican government. The Federation became the Federation Party on June 21, 1964. Patel's Indo-centric views brought about ethnic tension with the Chinese minority and the indigenous population, resulting in bitter conflict between ethnicities on Fiji later. Under the leadership of Biman Prasad, party has sought to become more multiracial in an effort to expand its appeal. |
