Leading representative party of Surinamese 'Maroons' (descendants of Africans in the Americas who escaped from slavery) and militantly anti-Desi Bourtese. Party leads a a bi-ethnic ('Javanese' and 'Maroons') anti-Bouterse alliance called the Alternative Combination (AC). Party and Alliance is led by rebel leader Ronnie Brunswijk.
Party has assumed the political duties of the 'parent' it was expelled from in 1990, the "Brotherhood and Unity in Politics' (BEP). [Algemene Bevrijdings- en Ontwikkelings Partij (ABOP)].
