Hardline Marxist-Leninist party begun as the Socialist Power Party (Sosyalist İktidar Partisi (SİP) in 1993. Party renamed itself the Communist Party (PK) in November 11, 2001 and added "Turkey" as in Communist Party of Turkey on January 22, 2017 [Türkiye Komünist Partisi (TKP)]. Party was launched by orthodox hardline forces known as the Gelenek group (named after the Communist magazine) which aligned itself with pronouncements coming from the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) until its downfall, and openly opposed Mikhail Gorbachev's Glasnost and Perestroika policies and rallied behind the CPSU forces trying to overthrow him (known as the 1991 Soviet coup d'état or August Putsch). Party is led by its General Secretary Kemal Okuyan.
