Description | Right-of-center, agrarian-interests party emerging as Estonia's third most popular after legislative elections held on March 3, 2019. Party began as the Estonian Rural People's Party (EME) in 1994, changing its name to the Estonian People's Union (ERL) in 1999. The ERL's political philosophy moved more to the right after it merged with the more nationalistic, anti-Russian Estonian National Movement, calling the new, merged party the Conservative People's Party of Estonia (EKRE) on March 24, 2012. Party has been chaired by journalist, MP and Minister of Finance Martin Helme since July 4, 2020. Party holds 19 seats in the 101-seat Riigikogu [Eesti Konservatiivne Rahvaerakond (EKRE)]. |
