Description | Center-right movement originally established as a coalition of "independent" mayors elected within the region of Zlín founded by independent Suchá Loz Mayor, Petr Gazdik. Movement expanded in 2008 to include mayors in the Central Bohemian and Liberec regions, then spread itself nationwide, inviting all mayors identifying themselves as independent to join it. Movement drew in the newly formed TOP 09 party in 2010, then formed a partnership with the Czech Pirates ahead of elections held in October 2020 calling it Pirates + STAN (Piráti + STAN). Pirates + STAN joined the ruling SPOLU government led by Petr Fiala on December 17, 2021. Party has been chaired by the Czech Republic's 1st deputy prime minister Vít Rakušan since April 13, 2019 [Starostové a nezávislí (STAN); shortened to "Starostové" ("Mayors") or the STAN movement in campaign literature and logos since January 22, 2024]. |
