DescriptionThe oldest communist party in Latin America and host of the First Conference of the Communist Parties of Latin America in 1929. Party was also the first to adhere to Bolshevism (in March of 1918) and became a stalwart supporter of Stalin and Stalinism for 80 years. Party began as the International Socialist Party, named ahead of the launch of the Third International or Comintern. Party's close alignment with the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) and Stalin stirred internal, often violent turmoil which brought about the creation of many anti-Stalin communist parties (most, short-lived), taking pro-Trotsky and pro-Bukharin positions. Party sent 'volunteers' to fight in support of the Republican cause in Spain and supported the assassination of Leon Trotsky. Party's adherence to the pronouncements of the 20th Congress of the CPSU, and antagonism between the Soviet Union and Maoist China in the late 60s, brought about a severe split within the party, giving birth to a new, more intransigent, "anti-revisionist" and pro-China party in the form of the Revolutionary Communist Party (PRC), established on January 6, 1968. Both parties have however aligned themselves with Peronism and are enthusiastic members of the Frente de Todos. The PCA is led by its General Secretary Víctor Kot [Partido Comunista de la Argentina (PCA)].
