Description | Left-wing Maori-rights party launched and led by Māori activist and former MP for the Māori electorate of Te Tai Tokera, Hone Harawira. Harawira had been a long-time executive at the Māori Party until a violent spat with colleagues in 2011 (which almost forced his expulsion) persuaded him to depart and create his own party. After winning a seat two months later, Harawira decided to strengthen his hand by merging with Vikram Kumar's center-left Internet Party to form the short-lived "Internet Party and Mana Movement" with the purpose of contesting the 2014 general election. Subsequent legislative failures convinced Harawira to dissolve (deregister) his party on May 3, 2021. Party President was Lisa McNab. |
