Left-of-center party allied to former President Joseph-Désiré Mobutu and co-founded by former prime minister (April 2 to April 9, 1997; seven days) Étienne Tshisekedi, father of the DR Congo's President Félix Tshisekedi. After his father's death in February 2017, Félix Tshisekedi co-led the party with Pierre Lumbi. Party anchored a parliamentary grouping from 2018 to 2019 called Heading for Change (Cap pour le changement, CACH), which was used as a vehicle by Félix Tshisekedi to win the presidency in December 30, 2018. Party became predominant after elections held in late 2023, taking 69 seats in the national parliament [Union pour la démocratie et le progrès social TSHISEKEDI (UDPS or UDPS TSHISEKEDI)].
