Description | Center-left opposition party founded by Sheriff M. Dibba, the former first Vice-President of the Gambia, after resigning as Vice-President in 1972 and splitting from the reigning People's Progress Party (PPP) after a row. Party became the Gambia's largest opposition between 1975 to 1994, partly undermined by Dibba's participation in the 1981 Gambian coup d'état. Party continued to participate in parliamentary elections, and joined Adama Barrow's seven-party Coalition 2016. Dibba became Speaker of the lower house between 2002-2006 [Parti de la convention nationale (NCP)]. |
