DescriptionCenter-right opposition party founded and led until his assassination in 1981 by former Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman. Rahman was succeeded as party leader by his wife Khaleda Zia, who became Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996, and again from 2001 to 2006. Party had held an astounding 300 out of 300 seats after elections which took place on February 15, 1996 due to opposition boycotts. Party collapsed to 10 seats after legislative elections held on December 30, 2018 resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister since January 6, 2009. Party advances the practice invented by its founder Ziaur Rahman of "Bangladeshi nationalism," an ideology that promotes the territorial identity of Bangladeshis. Party has been chaired by MP Tarique Rahman, son of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, after Khaleda Zia's resignation on February 9, 2018 [বাংলাদেশ জাতীয়তাবাদী দল]
