Description | Albania-nationalist turned center-right party formed after the end of the separatist war in 1999 by leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), many of whom, in particular, notorious KLA commander Fatmir Limaj, were indicted for war crimes. Party was launched as the Party for Democratic Progress of Kosovo, changing its name to the Democratic Party of Kosovo on October 10, 1999. Party was chaired since inception by KLA political leader and Kosovo's first prime minister, Hashim Thaçi, until March 9, 2016. Thaçi was succeeded by parliament speaker and former Kosovo Liberation Army commander Kadri Veseli until his resignation on November 5, 2020. Party is currently chaired by ex Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj [Partia Demokratike e Kosovës, PDK]. |
