DescriptionBuddhist anti-corruption party, part of conservative ruling coalition with the LDP. It first existed from 1961 up until 1998 as the moderate socialist Buddhist-theocratic Komeito (Clean Government Party). The party, wanting to embark on a more economically-conservative course, reinvented itself as New Komeito in 1998.
