Party split from the center-left Orange Democratic Movement in 2007 over the draft of a new constitution championed by anti-KANU Kenya President Kibaki after it was defeated in a national referendum. Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka served briefly as Vice President under Kibaki in January 2008. Party dissolved and renamed itself the Wiper Movement in mid 2011 in order to differentiate itself from Raila Odinga's ODM party.
