Description | Center-right party positioning itself as the "constructive opposition" of Belarus. Party was founded by former Minsk MP and deputy commander of the Air Defense Forces, Sergei Vasilyevich Gaidukevich. Party supports property rights and protections, tax-free economic zones and advocates Russian-Belarusian unionism, which is rapprochement and integration with Russia (aka, the Union State; Сою́зное госуда́рство). Party was initially established as the regional branch of the Liberal Democratic Party of the Soviet Union (LDPSS), which was formed on December 13, 1990. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the Belarus regional branch re-established itself as the LDPB in 1994. The LDPB is allied to the government of President Alexander Lukashenko and is the third-largest party in Parliament, holding one seat in the House of Representatives. The LDPB has been led since September 21, 2019 by MP and former head of the Frunzensky Police Department of Minsk, Oleg Gaidukevich [Ліберальна-дэмакратычная партыя Беларусі (ЛДПБ); Liberal'no-demokraticheskaya partiya Belarusi (LDPB)]. |
