DescriptionCenter-right party drawing its strength from Iceland's countryside. Party began as an 8-person parliamentary group with membership limited only to other MPs until 1930, when the group incorporated the Peasants' Party and the Independent Farmers' Party. Party was a champion of a national bank for Iceland and advanced massive public works when it held power from August 28, 1927 to May 16, 1942, and from 1971 to 1991, it held predominant power, called in Iceland the Framsóknaráratugirnir (Progressive Decades). Party has been chaired by Iceland's 30th Prime Minister, Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, since October 2, 2016. It remains the oldest active party in Iceland and holds 13 out of 63 seats in parliament [Framsóknarflokkurinn or Framsókn (FSF, symbol "B")].
