Description | Sole party of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Party was fashioned out of the Indochinese Communist Party of Vietnam founded by the first President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Hồ Chí Minh. Party has held 100% of the seats in the Laotian National Assembly since the party seized complete power in 1989 though its legal coalition, the Lao Front for National Development (LFND; ແນວລາວສ້າງຊາດ). Party adheres to the philosophies of its first chairman (March 22, 1955 -November 21, 1992) Kaysone Phomvihane, who was leader of Laos from December 8, 1975 to November 21, 1991. Party's General Secretary and leader since January 15, 2021 has been Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Laos since March 22, 2021 [ພັກປະຊາຊົນປະຕິວັດລາວ; Phak Pasaxon Pativat Lao (PPPL)]. |
