Description | Center-right party supporting the independence of Greenland from the Kingdom of Denmark. Party was inspired by protests in 2023 led by fisherman rights advocate Karl Ingemann against government regulation of Greenland's fishing industry. Ingemann saw these as regulations encouraged by Denmark-based bureaucracies who act out of political conviction and not in the interests of Greenlanders. Ingemann used the protests as a "Boston Tea Party" moment, and in 2023 co-launched Qulleq with Henrik Fleischer, a former Siumut party MP. Ingemann became the party's chairman, with Fleischer as Qulleq's vice. Party calls for an immediate "declaration of independence" from Denmark, a Greenlandic constitution and a Greenland passport. Party also calls for the reorganization of Greenland's municipalities to more align with historic Greenlandic traditions, and a national focus on building up Greenland's strengths in the fishing and oil industries. Party set up local branches in Narsaq, Qaqortoq, Nuuk, Maniitsoq and Sisimiut and plans to participate in parliamentary elections being held on March 11, 2025, and municipal council elections planned for April 1, 2025 [Qulleq (Q); a "qulleq" is a traditional Inuit oil lamp]. |
