Left wing party founded in the 1980s by Senate leader and former DR President Jacobo Majluta (died on March 2, 1996). Party was spun-off the Dominican Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Dominicano, PRD) founded on January 21, 1939, where Majluta worked as its historian. The break, due to disagreements between Majluta and the PRD leader at the time, José Francisco Peña Gómez, induced a small pilgrimage of PRD members to Majluta's new party. Party is led by Julio E. Jiménez and Pedro A. González Pantaleón [Partido Revolucionario Independiente (PRI)].
