DescriptionCenter-right Gaullist party supporting autonomy for New Caledonia and France's continued sovereignty over it. Party was formed as a result of a merger (completed in 1978) between the Entente démocratique et sociale (EDS), the Association des indigènes calédoniens et loyaltiens français (AICLF) the Rassemblement pour la République - Nouvelle Caledonie (RPR-NC) of native Caledonian activist Dick Ukeiwé, and the Mouvement libéral calédonien
(MLC). Merged party was launched as the Rassemblement pour la Calédonie (RPC), then renamed itself "Le Rassemblement" in 2014. The party tries to "rally" anti-independence parties opposing the concept of an independent "Callou" (proposed name of an independent New Caledonia), in spite of the pro-independence results of referendums held between 2014 to 2022. Party has been led by Alcide Ponga since December 8, 2022 [officially, The Rally - The Republicans; Le Rassemblement - Les Républicains].
