Center-left party formerly known as the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) founded on April 15, 2020, which itself began as the Movement for a Democratic and Prosperous Moldova (MDPM) established on February 8, 1997. The Democratic Party was convulsed by factions which supported returning Moldova and the party to its Soviet roots, battling others wishing union with Romania. Party leaders forced an internal reconstruction beginning in the Autumn of 2021, which resulted in the announcement that the Democratic Party would be rebranded and replaced by the PSDE. The PSDE is led by an ex-minister of agriculture, Ion Sula, who is also president of OT PDM Ialoveni [Partidul Social Democrat European (PSDE)].
